Danger Will Robinson

Do not think that you will be Lost in Cyber Space when you start your DIY podcast. You probably did not know that Uncles Sam has brothers. Several, as a matter of fact.

Irs is the one that if you do not pay the protection money to every April 15th, you may have your financial legs broken.

Big brother’s other brother, Uncle Charlie (as the FCC is sometimes known in the broadcast industry) is watching you, er eh, listening to you in the podcast scene. Although limited, Uncle Charlie is trying to reach out and touch the podcast industry more and more.

Even though the FCC is limited, your podcast the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is not. You will have to follow the FTC Guides and rules. They can make your life miserable to the tune of $11,000 per fine. This for failure to follow the guides.

Your not out of hot water yet. Even if the federal government does not come down on you, there is still the state government that you have to be concerned with.

But there is more.

You will not be immune from lawsuits. So, if you say it, do it or if you condone it on your podcast, you can be sued for it.

Additional any legal concerns of the brick and mortar world and on air radio waves world will still apply. These include playing copyrighted music, licensed music, sharing copyrighted materials and even the legalities of recorded telephone conversations.

Even More to Come

There is enough to fill a book on podcasting. We hope to provide the basics. With this knowledge, you can decide if it is for you or not.

Pardon the Renovation Sign

We just started (March 2010) a major renovation. Hardhats required when entering.

Please be on the watch for dangling participles.

Use care not to trip over run on sentences.

We have a full time crew to clean up misspelled words. If you see any, please let us know and we will send them out to tidy up.

Oh yea, and please come back and watch us make a web site on how to make a website.

From Desk Top to Top of the WWW

Once your audio file is created it needs to be put in a file and uploaded to the server.

The transfer process uses what is called a FTP. FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol.

This process and a step by step guide will be explained in future posts.

Is Anybody Listening

Once your up and podcasting, you will need to let people know about you.

This will require getting listed in directories.

There are also podcast-listening sites.

These are only a few of the ways to let others know about your podcasts.

More DIY Podcast building information to come. Please check back.
