Barter

What is Barter?
How do Bartering Exchanges Work?

or How one Man Raised Over $200,000 and Funded His Business Without Cash

Before looking at what barter is, consider this. If you made any money at all or missed making money on E-bay then what would you do if another opportunity like that came along? Would you grab it up. Would you run with it.

This is a prediction that barter websites will be just as big as e-bay was er, eh is. Only thing, for those who get into it sooner rather than later, it will be much better.

But isn't E-bay doing great? Maybe if your E-bay. If you are like most, then you are not doing so well. At least that is what is being said.

Is E-bay Dead?
Is There a Better Way?

You know what I hear when talking to people at the antique malls, auctions, and my last yard sale. They say E-bay is dead.

So, what's going to be the next best thing to sliced bread and E-bay? Think about it. What is the number one problem with the 2010 economy?

If your a buyer, the problem is having money to purchase. If you are a seller, getting someone who has money to buy your goods.

What if you, as a business owner could solve both sides of this equation?

There is a solution. If provides a way to buy for those who have no money.

It makes selling possible to those who have no money.

The answer is nothing new. It is called barter and it is growing.

As more and more start trading services and products in exchange for other services and products, you will see more exchange websites.

Note:

The end of 2009 was my first venture into barter exchange. I sold both at barter fairs and on the internet. All that can be said is that this was like being at a live E-bay convention with everything in buy it now mode. No, let me correct that, it was like the above only on steroids.

My sales only totaled over $5,000. Over 3,000 was made in just 6 hours at a barter fair.

George, (we used to work together) has also joined the association. He has done better than me.

Bartering may not be for everyone. However, it is working great for me.

Spending The Profits

So now, having money that I would not otherwise have has made possible to get things that I other wise could not afford.

Not having dental insurance, I can pay for a dentist with the barter dollars I have collected. Yes, there are several dentist to choose from.

This is powerful.

I have already lined up a painter to paint the upper reaches of my house come warmer weather. Oh yes, he is being paid by barter.

Some are still using the old sales techniques. Techniques like not telling you everything up front. One required giving all my information prior to even telling me how much it would cost. They thought they were slick. What they don't know is that I just clicked off their site. Me and a statistically large number of other visitors.

Barter Websites: What are They, What do They Do?

It is estimated that 65% of Fortune 500 companies engage make trades with other businesses to one degree or another.

Barter websites are places where you can list your items for sale. The items are sold through a broker. The broker in turn manages the transactions. This way, you buy something at the time you need it and you sell when ever you want.

Also, you will buy and sell to various different people. So one of my painting gets sold to someone in Connecticut and if you were me, you would get dental work in Pennsylvania and Tires from Eddies, which is across town (a true story, also got a car battery).

How do businesses get started?

Two people can meet, shake hands and a trade is made. Unfortunately, sometimes it is not possible for one or another to fulfill their end of the arrangement

The solution is to work with a brokerage. The websites that help you make the trade will provide all the help you could possibly need.

A brokerage or barter exchange is like a bank, only there is no money, only exchanges. The exchanges are recorded and are credited to your account. The products or services you accept are deducted from your account.

The price for having someone else broker this, ensuring you get your part of the trade is about 6% of the sale and 6% of the purchase price.

Paying out 12% may seem like a lot to make a sale. Not to George. He went to work to figure out what inventory was not selling in his local market.

Quickly getting it listed, he was able to move it at fair market price. Rather than taking up space and getting older, the unsellable product financed a trip to Florida for two weeks. It included a room for him and his wife and one for his kids. He stayed there for two weeks. All it cost him was the inventory and 6% for the brokerage on the sale of the product.

Remember, this was product that he could not move and would have been stuck with, maybe even selling at a fraction of its value.

He also paid 6% on the receiving end as well.

That is not all. Turns out one of the products he is able to buy at deep discount. He turns around and sells them for less than market price but several times what he pays for them. What did he do.

He satisfied the new market, making a profit, only in the form of a trade.

Some credit cards cost 3% to make a sale. This is only 6% to buy and to sell, so it is not far from what we pay anyway.

A Barter Scenario

So if you put a new roof on my house in Scranton PA, you could get paid with a vacation in Spain. The difference with one to one trading is that the purchaser may get paid from someone else.

This is unlike traditional cash flow where I may not have the money to do the roof this year. If sales are slow for my artwork and public speaking gigs are down, be assured not much buying is happening locally with the money I do not have.

If on the other hand, since my art work is selling this way wonderfully in Florida, Connecticut, Ohio and else where on the web, then at least my next vacation, land purchase, maybe a moped, car (they had a Jaguar), motor cycle, or something will be paid for through a trade exchange.

In my case, it will be dental amalgam removal, something not covered by insurance and very expensive.

What are the Trade Exchanges Ask of You?

Some have a one time membership fee. The fees can be expensive, running as high as $1200. However, there is a way you can get into one of the best barter exchanges for free. It is a little known secret we will tell you about.

Most also have a modest monthly fee as well that coverts accounting, marketing, promotions and member services.

In researching this topic for a lecture I will be giving, yep, I found a way to get this free too. Imagine joining an exchange for free and no monthly fees. What is the catch you may be wondering. There are two.

George was one of the first by the way.

Before telling you any more, lets look deeper at the exchange system.

What if everyone wants what you have and you cannot find enough to buy?

Most companies have a trade consultant assigned to you. They provide spending analysis and purchasing assistance.

If your in high demand, you have control over how much you give out. If your purchasing, it is much like buying with cash. Only you will go through the brokerage to actually make the purchase.

If you need to make a purchase before you have earned trade dollars to fund your account, then you can open a line of credit. This allows you to start purchasing right away.

Pricing products and services are just like pricing to your cash customers. Most people are educated consumers. Bartering is nothing more that cash or credit, except that instead of trading cash or taking a credit card, you are trading goods.

The beauty of this form of trading is that it can be done any where around the city you live in, the country or the world. It only depends on the limitations of your trade exchange.

Many trade exchanges also have worldwide reciprocal trade relationships. This means you may not be limited to exchanging only within your trade exchange.

Barter Trade and Assist2web.com

So, what does this kind of trade have to do with Assist2web.com?

If you have not considered it yet, some of the services you want to sell over the web could be sold through this economy. It would require a special page identifying your product as being something you will offer in trade through your exchange.

You will also need a page leading them to your exchange. But what if a potential buyer is not yet into such an exchange? Simple, you get them to join. This benefits you in more ways than just getting the sale, er eh, I mean trade.

Here is the best part. I have partnered with a broker and you can join for free. Most people pay $100 to join. You can do it for zip, zero, nada, no denario.

Well, let me qualify. Only (was 300)269 more people (as of March, 2010) can join for free. I will change this number as people join. After that, the price will go up.

Also, it is not for everyone. If it is not for you, the broker will tell you. Their philosophy is that they want the most successful people benefiting. If it is not going to benefit you, they don't want you.

Your information will not be folded, spindled, mutilated or shared with anyone else. This is a limited time offer that is being beta tested at this time (July 29,2009)

The exchange is one of the leading exchanges for businesses in the world.

The $200,000 Business

If You Are Not Bartering
You Should Be

One company raised over 200K to buy equipment for his business, all on barter trade. That was 200K that he did not have to finance. Think about how much the interest would have been on a commercial loan for that much.
