Here is a play by play of how to put together a copyright infringement letter to get the copyright offender off the web. (Who do you send it to?)ATTN: Dispute Resolution Department (even if there is no such department...this will get attention.) (What is it about?) Subject: Copyright Infringement (Greetings, always use business language, never say Hey, or Howdy.) Hello, (Put your name and even a live link to your website. However, if your letter does not get through, you may have to resend with out the live links. Here is what I used.) (of something similar) (I also put the live link to the offending site.) (I included the domain host in the letter) ns1.profithost.net ns2.profithost.net (Also included were the creation dates of the site to add further credibility. ) Creation date: 19 Nov 2008 04:11:13Expiration date: 19 Nov 2009 04:11:13 (The body of the letter. Three paragraphs long. Tell what they did and that they do not have permission to do so. The second paragraph asks the host to resolve the infringement. Also remind them that they are in violation with the Berne Convention and the Digital Millennium Act. This is because if they do nothing, they likewise become guilty of copyright infringement. Also ask them to visit the infringing site and or page and your site or web page.) Finish with regards,Your name and Your website. Would you like to see an actual copy of the letter.
