The following is a true DIY build a web site story. I have not even changed the name. Just did not reveal the last name.

"I have the most incredible domain name I came up with and the best part, it is available!" Al said as he walked into the room with a Cheshire smile, that, if it was any bigger, it would have broke his face.

The domain name is like the brand name of your product, service or you as a resource. Once the website building process starts it is as if a giant billboard is being erected in your behalf. Where do you suppose Al's billboard was going to be erected?

Ah, your thinking it is going to be on the web where millions, nay bazillions will be driving by. Sorry, it is not that simple.

Although millions are driving down the information highway at any given second, their driving habit's are very predictable. Human web drivers are creatures of habit. Your DIY build a website mind set has to tap into the way people think.

These web information highway drivers are using words, concepts and thoughts as a compass that instantly propels them to near their final destination. There is still some last minuet navigation. But their thoughts get them 80 to 90% of the way.

The thought process or concept navigation is the keywords that they type into their browsers.

Al's wonderful domain name that was sure to be a great hit was catchy. It was easy to remember. This would make it easy to read.

The name, "I Quit.com' also was indeed available. But, and this is a very big but, there was only one problem (actually two but I digress).

How many people were typing into their browsers the words, I quit on a daily basis. At the time, only a few hundred.

This means Al's beautiful billboard of a website would be the equivalent of being in the middle of a wheat field in Kansas. Some would see it, but not enough to make any serious traffic.

Even worse, Al did not have any idea of what he was quitting. Quit smoking, quit drinking, quit using the Internet. It was not only a seldom searched concept on its own, it was also too broad if he did not narrow it down to a specific target market.

As far as DIY build a web site concept goes, this was ambiguous.

There was a second problem. Turns out, "I Quit was trademarked. So, even though it was available, it was already taken. If your thinking you can go and buy it and then sell it to the owner, think again. Since it is trademarked, it cannot legally be sold. So, although it is possible for you to buy it, you cannot use or sell it. It is already legally owned.

Even if you made sales to 25 % of your visitors, at 60 people a month visiting your site, you could only hope to make about $30 per month. That would just about pay for your web site with a little left over for your electric bill! Not exactly a enough to quit your day job is it? This is not how to start an Internet business.
