Email List Spam Examples

  • You get the bright idea of going to a business who has a lot of e-mail addresses from his customers. Perhaps it is a pet food store. The people gave their e-mail address so the store owner could let them know when there were specials running, special sales or consigned shipments. You pitch the store on using their list to offer your e-mail campaign on splorks. After all, dog owners would probably be great splork owners.

The BadSpam bites. And both you and the store owner both could get bit for this.

If the patrons signed up to give their e-mail so that they could be informed of sales, discounts or the like, then they have an expectation of only receiving that information. They did not want to be put on any other list or pitched about other things.

This is one of the best email list spam examples because it could be entered into so innocently.

When it comes to internet spam and emails, do not try to pull an end run or you might end up like Enron.

  • What if your a member in good standing of the Chamber of Commerce. As part of signing up, your given a list of all the other businesses in the chamber. In my chamber, there are thousands of businesses as several chambers combined to create a greater area chamber. It covers three major cities in the State along with several dozen small towns. One of the cities is a Super City on the national level.

What a great list. Can I pitch the list? After all I have a great business proposition that will help them.

The BadThis could get batted back to you as a SPAM accusation. Depending on the by-laws and your agreement, you could even lose your membership and your fee.

One purpose of the list is for us to try to do business with those on the list. Doing business with does not mean ‘doing’ the business or trying to sell them. Does this mean you can’t use the information? If you need something, they have it, save the gas and find out if it is available.

The Chamber forwarded me a name one day. They said she said she will be hard to get by phone and to e-mail her per her request. Including that info, I sent a note off asking if I could talk with her for her to consider my art for consignment in her store.

In effect I asked if I could pitch her. Her letter back was the opt-in that allowed me to actually pitch her. Even this was risky but I had hard copied the documentation in place to show how it came about just in case.
