Both headings and headlines can play an important aspect of getting noticed by the search engines and visitors.

The headline is the main attractor to your content for the human visitor. The spider needs to see the keyword early on in the words of the headline.

The keyword needs to be near the beginning of the headline. If it is a three or four word keyword, it will need to start at the beginning of the headline.

It is best if it is wove into the headline using the psychological triggers. For a bonus, make it into a question and get the Ask search engine to pick you up and list you sooner than it would otherwise.

Headings SEO

For headings the same rule applies. A heading needs to be near the top third of the copy so it is readily seen by the spiders. This is only a minor thing but every little bit helps with SEO.

Try to make the headings so that if a visitor was just reading the headings, it would be possible to say what the article is about. Then in the first of the headings, include the keyword at the beginning.

Weave it into the words so that it appears natural.
