Website legalities are an important aspect of website creation. They are also an essential part of creating an internet based business.
They fall into several categories.
First and most important to remember, virtually all that you will hear and be told is only an opinion. When it comes to the law, every word has a meaning and that meaning can change depending on the judge that has to rule on the meaning of what the law says.
Even what a lawyer will tell you is sometimes relative.
So consider this a general guideline and a resource to start the process of knowing what you do not know. It is a lot more than website copyright and trademarks.
You may plan of being private with information you accept. Do you know what the legal requirements regarding any information you collect? Do you need a privacy policy?
Do you know what the advertising laws are? Do you know how they relate to your web site and what you personally advertise?Spam

Business Legalities
If you have a business, in most municipalities it needs to be registered. The fee can be as little as $20. If you don’t want to part with your hard earned money, even if it should cost you $200, then you probably will not be any good at being in business for yourself.
The exception...There is a common exception. It is the DBA exception. If (and this depends on your local municipality) you create a business based on just your name in some cases you need not register your business name.
So your business becomes DBA (doing business as) _______________ (fill in your first and last name) or _________________ (fill in first and last name) Company is another way to do it.
Your tax accountant will know how to advise you on this.
These are some but may not be all the website legalities you will need to be aware of. Most of them are common sense. Consider how you would like to be treated is a basic rule of how to behave on the web so as to not get into trouble.
