The first time when youre plagiarized will cause a number of emotions and thoughts. As stated in the previous page on Internet Copyright Issues, for me, it was exciting. The first thing I did was to post on the forums to find out if anyone else had experienced this. I have had individual pages stolen prior to this. To have my entire site hi-jacked was a new experience. I was curious if anyone else had this experience. The first thing that happened was one of the bright spots of this ordeal. I was contacted by the owner of the my website host and the owner of the forum. The same man who wrote the best selling book on the internet and who built the system that hosts more websites in the top 1% of all web sites as measured by Alexa (the Study was by Netscape). Here this someone responsible for over 40K websites and he took the time to contact me via the forums. Not only did he express his concern, he gave me the links with the information on how to follow up on this. This is not only a testament for the good in people, it is a testament to the quality of my website host. Even if I was not an affiliate, I would recommend his hosting to anyone who wanted success. Cease and Desist When youre plagerized, next steps involved finding the host of the offending site. It was easy through a site called Whois.com where every site owner is listed. In the course of finding this information, another site surfaced. It was a site that offered reviews of site. Of course, my review was that it was a forgery. I also contacted the owners of the site and told them what was going on. They supported me. Next was making a copy of the offending site. This to make sure he did not re-surface only with my site slightly changed. This offered the proof of intent. In court, there has to be actual proof. Now I have it. Then it was time to send a cease and desist letter to the offending site owner. 3-16-09 Not sent just yet. A few more things I have to do.
