Proposal: Build a window washing website on speculation and get paid for performance.

Background: We looked at options and settled on a window cleaning mini-site. Essentially, a business card website or a small biz website. It is also Geo-Local optimized to help it rank high in the local search.
Since one of the staff here at Assist2web.com was formerly a window washer and in the glass business so only minimal help was required.
How would the small biz website help this small business owner.

We took several weeks to find the right template, the right hosting company and develop a system that any small biz owner would be able to manage on their own.
We also developed and researched our theory as to what small businesses wanted and needed.
In the world of web building, many web developers can build a website. The challenge is actually getting traffic to the site.
Some can get a lot of traffic to the site but with out conversion or people actually consuming your product or service, that traffic is of no value.
What You Need is a Website
We realized that any web developer who was going to build a top ranking and people drawing website would have to get the owners to work hand in hand with the building of the site. This is because of the subtle nuances that only the business owner can know.

after several years, existing keywords that previously were not noticed have been discovered. Some drastically improving traffic.
How could anyone out side the public speaking industry know to look for or even see these keywords. They did not show up using the usual keyword search tools.

We are ranked on Alexa. Surprisingly, under 6 million. Alexa is notoriously inaccurate when the ranking is greater than 100K. But to hit at 6 million when others are at 20 million is a nice place to start.
Remember, all of the traffic is from friends now and not the web.
The website grade hit 20 as well, after a few tweaks in order to practice what we preach.

A few more corrections and tweaks done today. All basic things. Called and found the TOS of Angies List. Explained affiliate marketing to the window washing company folks. They will be signing up.
They also asked about a discount coupon and a forum for people to contact them. This is good, proactive marketing thinking. It is not likely that if you put up a web site and just leave it alone that it will evolve into something that will meet the needs of customers.
It has to be designed, created and tested.
Website grader has us up at 22 now. Alexa is down to 4,952,572 (remember, this is just one of many indicators). No Google index as of this posting on this window cleaning website case study.
One other proactive action. The window cleaning folks sent out a note to friends and family, asking them to check out the site and even book mark it if they would. Also they attempted to set up a twitter account but it would not fit. Need to get back to them on this.
Again, proactive.

Website Grade up to 24. Google now has indexed the site

The window cleaners notified us that they have posted to Face Book about their site.
The site was also added to Google Maps. If you found them on Google Maps, you can now get to the website via the link on the map.
An interesting side note, this page that you are reading now was also indexed and is visible under the search term, 'window washers Scranton.' It is about the third spot down.
Although not even expecting this, we further optimized the page to get it up to the top as well.

The website grader has bumped us up one more point for the minor tweaks and corrections.
The grade is now 23.
A number of people have visited the site. Even got a few from as far away as Washington and Canada.
Somehow, the Google index seems to have been dropped. It appears as though when the post was first made, there was a glitch and it resulted in a message from the 20th. It says User-agent: * Disallow:
This may mean we are in the Google Sand Box. Will have to wait to see.

Website grader is up to 25. Alexa is at 4,307,734.
Last evening a couple of e-mails were sent out to get links.
We also sent a letter of query to the local newspaper in Staunton, VA, to position ourselves for a future press release.

The website grader has us down to 23.
We are continuing to get a few out of state hits on the site.
We are back in the good graces of the Google index. We are also on Bing for the most popular keyword search terms relating to window cleaning.
Nothing fancy to get here. It did not even cost anything to do it. All it required was to use some simple white hat SEO that you learn about here on Assist2web.com.

Website grader is up to 26. Alexa is at 4,133,611.
Nothing much done for the past few days. Still need to put up a form to let people post to the site.
We had sent a letter of query to the local newspaper in Staunton, VA and got no response.

With no off site promotion, the traffic is up when ever we post related to the site. Down otherwise.

No sales have been made from the site as of this time.

The website grader has us up to 45.
Still no off site promotion, the traffic non-esixtant. This is an indication that people are just not searching for window cleaning on the web in this local.
Alexa continues to improve with a score of 2,197,170. Inbound links are at 13.
No sales have been made from the site as of this time as far as we know.
